Ok, so I've been in the market for a new laptop for awhile searching around for a good deal and what not and I found a good deal for a Dell E1405 Core Duo 14" laptop. You can find a link for it here:
All of the reviews I've found for it say that it's a good buy for the price, but I was wondering if anyone has this kind of laptop, knows anyone who does, or what the thoughts are about it. The only problem is that the deal ends tomorrow, so it's kind of a short notice thing. Any advice that anyone can give me would be great! Thank you!
I've always heard pretty good reviews about them. If you really want good reviews go to http://forum.notebookreview.com/. I got an e1505 recently from dell and haven't had any problems with it. Generally with Dells it seems that so long as the laptop isn't fucked from the beginning it should work just fine for you. Plus you can't really get a much bigger bang for your buck from other laptop dealers.
Don't worry about the deal running out though, Dell renews them every couple of weeks. Check http://www.hotdealsclub.com/ for the deals and latest Dell coupons.
P.S. Don't get the brightview screen if you don't like glossy screens, because thats all it is. They are HIGHLY reflective of any direct lighting. Thats my only problem with this laptop and its entirely my fault for not checking into it better.

Yeah, I went to the review website and read mainly good reviews about it. I've also been looking around for awhile and this was the best deal that I had seen in a long time. I would wait to see if a better deal come through, but I need a new laptop 'cause my old one crashed and is no longer working. I just bought it so we'll see how it all works out when it gets here. Thanks for your help!

Always look around online for coupon codes. I found a 30% off coupon for my E1505 when I bought it last summer. Saved me several hundred dollars. I love the laptop, its quite powerful with the dual-core processor. The white trim didnt look very good in pictures, but its better in person.
I would have gotten the E1404, except that they don't offer any graphics cards in the E1404, you have to go up to the E1505 to get a decent graphics card.
Altogether, I got:
1.66 Ghz Core Duo
1 Gig ram
ATI X1400 graphics card
CDRW/DVD
WSXGA screen (1680x1050)
Integrated Bluetooth
and everything else that comes standard.
And with the coupon code, it came in at $960 including shipping and taxes. And that was back in July.
check to see if your parents have an employee discount with major notebook manufacturers. my dad works at ATT so we got 10 percent off HP or Dell just for that. good buy.

boeing gets 16% off so might want to check on that. I think it's called an EPP discount with dell. So like the previous poster said, see if you have any employer discounts.
Yeah my brother can get the boeing epp discount a 16%, but they aren't stackable with any of their other deals, so normally Dell's other coupon deals are better overall, since they average about 20% off or so.

I don't think that my mom will get any discounts 'cause she's retired. I did hope though and check out American Airlines (where she used to work). My sister and I also scoured the Internet for more coupons and managed to find one for an extra 20% off.

If you're looking for reliability and overall quality, you should check out ASUS notebooks.
There are plenty of reviews at NotebookReview and other review sites.
Currently there are a bunch of mail-in rebates they're offering too...
