That basically sums it up.
I totally disagree. The Chancellor was defending his position. 90% of the questions were from opposition to the change.
If anything happens it's going to be at the very least a couple months from now. They are just gathering public opinion at this stage. They obviously support a name change. But as he said, if the Alumni, Students, and community don't support a change there won't be a change. He's just campaigning for it right now.

I think it would have been better if they were asking us to decide to change to a particular name, rather than asking us to decide to change to a name, to be decided later.

What I got is that the Chanecellor and the rest of the adminstration have already decided they are for it and are defending their postion. I flat out said that in one the questions I asked (around 2:05 after most people had left), and he didn't seem too happy about it.
The whole point of the forum was because the Chancellor DOES want a name change. He said that at the very beginning. It wasn't to toss around should we or shouldnt we change it. It was to inform us of why he feels we need a better name. People were supposed to go and ask intelligent questions, which I didn't hear many of. Basically my personal thoughts after attending the forum are that if changing our name keeps the kids who asked the retarded questions to not come here anymore, then we should definitely change our name. All in all, I'm now embarrassed that we admit most of the students we do.

How did it go? Was it too short? Do we need another one? What came up?
I was pissed that I had a class at 1 so I left around 1:15. It was pretty much a political think to make it appear that they give a shit.
EDIT:: And I have come up with a new theory... I have decided that Carney has already spoke with Board of Curators and the only way they will go for it is if University and Missouri are in the name. That is the only reason I can see for him having such a hardon for University and Missouri...

After hearing the open forum, I am still heavily opposed to the name change. I felt as though it is not justifyable to have our name changed from the given arguements. However, I do agree that I am heartily embarassed that there were such moronic questions as "can we change the name of the town so that we're University of Missouri-Engineerville". That was so retarded that I felt dumber for having listened to it.
However, I didn't really hear one good reason why the name-change is really needed. On top of that, the tone of the presentation lead me to think that they plan on chaning the name regardless of how the student population feels. Would they like for us all to be on board with it? Sure. Will it stop them if we're not? It doesn't seem like it.

I think the name change is stupid. I think before they do something superfical like change the name, real problems need to be addressed. I think if the intention is to enroll more students, more student housing and parking needs to be built and current student housing needs to be improved. We also need more classroom space and to improve current classroom space. I don't know about y'all, but if I was trying to encourage students to come here, I would be embarressed by classrooms like G3 Schrenk, 120 CE, and other smaller classrooms meant for 20 students, being used for 30-40 students. Improvements should be made from the inside-out.

Have you guys seen ME216? Theres a frickin TARP in the celing because its been leaking all semester. Thats the kind of shit that needs to be fixed before we even consider any sort of name change (which I find pointless to begin with)

Missed out on the second stage of the Residential College being constructed?? Or how about the North Tower of TJ being completely renovated.. Or maybe the fact that the Quad is slowly being phased out...

I guess you don't go by the Toomey Hall construction site very often.. If how many non-civil classes are held in that Butler-Carlton is an indication of what Toomey will most likely be, then I think we will be ok...
If those aren't enough improvements (which I just came up with off the top of my head) pm me for the entire Construction Update.. [I'd host it on my web space but haven't gotten around to setting it back up since dfs.. and it's late.. maybe tomorrow]
