ok... so heres the thing... Im trying to get simcity 2000 to run off my flash drive..

inorder for me to run it i have to register some values with the system... i have those files in a .reg file... the values point to objects so the game runs properly..

what im trying to do is get a batch file to run the registry values, enter those and then run the simcity exe..

it would be nice that upon closure of simcity exe that the registry values i entered could also then be deleated...

second issue is taht my flash drive isnt always the same drive letter... so not only does this mess with the registry file since its pointing to files on the flash drive (ex.. E:\programs\games\sc2000) but on anotehr computer it could be drive G:\... so thats the biggest delima im running into...

im sure theres a better way to do this... maby an installer or something... ive never really delt with this b4.. but i was just woundering if anyone had any ideas

Seems the easiest way to do this with a batch file would be to do:

Code:
REGEDIT /S simcity.reg

Quote:
To remove an entire "tree" from the registry using REGEDIT and a .REG file, just add a minus sign before the tree name:

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\DummyTree]

will remove the entire tree "DummyTree".

Check out http://www.robvanderwoude.com/regedit.html for some other neat regedit "tricks". It would be more elegant to write an actual program to do this stuff, but quick and dirty works too..

i made an installer to take care of the registry files... its actually perty sweet.. run the install file.. click ok... extracts if files that arnt there then runs the exe..

im not sure if i want to deal with removing the keys or not... i dont think im going to

ill prolly put the file up on my webspace.. its only 8mb.. and im sure people would enjoy a good game so SC2000 here and there in a clc.. during class or between XD

You can run Quake 3 off a usb drive without any registry stuff. Do that instead :).
