Seriously, I'd get better pings on dial up:

Code:
toddsbox:~ todd$ ping google.com

64 bytes from 72.14.207.99: icmp_seq=12 ttl=242 time=587.270 ms
^C
--- google.com ping statistics ---
13 packets transmitted, 11 packets received, 15% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 559.273/974.776/1637.854/342.800 ms
toddsbox:~ todd$

Anyone else having extreme slowness problems?

I'm averaging about 70ms, but no packet loss. Interestingly enough, yours was the same problem I had about a month back. Huge packet loss, download was spotty.

Mine isn't always fast, but I usually attribute that to the fact that I pretty much saturate the meager upload capacity, well, all the time.

I got kicked from a number of SvenCoop servers this week for having such a horrid ping, and im on campus. I wonder if this is a rolla wide problem.

SvenCoop looked/looks pretty fun last time I saw it. How's the scene these days?

Did Fidelity do anything to fix it, or did it fix itself?

They sent over a guy, but his only solution was either to unplug the modem and plug it back in, or swap it out with theirs. Nothing worked, and eventually it solved itself. Don't quite know what the deal was. Damn repair guys don't know anything about computers. He blamed the slow speed and packet loss on my having "Flashblock" because he thought it was stopping things other than flash movies from coming through.

i still play it, the problem is that often the people playing are immature, and many servers have the VoteKill, VoteKick, VoteBan, even VoteMap features disabled. On one server the other day, i had a guy who stopped in a narrow doorway where enemies just rushed him and he blocked the path of everybody. He had obviously done this before because he had really high strength, and was able to just keep killing aliens and raising his health. he wouldn't let us "steal" any of his precious kills.

still a great game though. ill be happy when SvenCoopSource finally comes out. (if it ever does) Some people are just great at modding for GoldSource (Half Life 1 engine). Adam foster (Minerva Metastasis Modder) just mentioned some people in his blog who just released a mod for HL that looks almost good enough to be source at first glance.

if there was a UMR server, i'd definitely play Sven btw. Unfortunately theres only ~50 servers on any given day and not that many people playing at any given time. =CATS= Gaming is one of my favorite servers, though. It always seems to be full, however :(

Is anyone else still having problems? I'm getting ridiculous latencies when I try to tracert google, but I'm not quite sure if it is the service or my shitty router.

Mine shut off entirely, but they restarted everything this morning.

You should call Fidelity and check to see what speed they have you at...

When we were having problems, we had mistakenly thought that we were at 1.5mbps (our cable is included with our rent and out landlord pays it, so we've never seen a bill to verify), but when I had shitty pings, I called them and asked the guy to double check the speed we were on, and it was kbps...and 512 split among several computers doesn't go a long way. We went ahead and upgraded to 5mbps and it's been fine so far....I've never actually reached 5 mbit on a speed test, it's usually around 3.8 to 4mbps, but close enough so I don't care

Over the summer I was able to get the full 5mb on downloads and speedtests but since school started in August I'd be lucky to get 3.5+
