I read through the first thread on this and found it interesting since I'm the Army ROTC Scholarship Officer. Anyway, I'm guessing the original thread originator checked into AFROTC. Army is very similar but there are differences. Our scholarship is a full-tution scholarship whether you are an in-state or out-of-state resident. It also provides $300 per month as a freshman, $350 as a sophomore, $450 as a junior and $500 per month as a senior. You also get $450 per semester for books and $1000 per semester from UMR simply for being on an ROTC scholarship. We also have money that can pay for a room in TJ or the quad. Most of our cadets live off-campus, however.

If you are interested in the National Guard or Army Reserve, you can bring in over $1200 per month in cash plus tuition assistance that pays part of your tuition each year. Or, you could be on an ROTC Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty scholarship and be in the Reserves simultaneously.

While you are a contracted cadet in ROTC, even if you are in the Guard or Reserve, you cannot be deployed. Upon commissioning as an Army officer, you can go Active Duty or Reserve Forces duty. There are a couple of ways to guarantee you a Reserve or National Guard commission if that's your cup of tea.

ROTC does take some time from you but no more than 10 hours per week. Some of our cadets hold down a part-time job but they don't have to. It's something they want to do to get a little extra cash.

ROTC is obviously not for everyone but it is a viable option for those interested in improving their leadership skills. The scholarship is nice, too! And no, I don't get a bonus for bringing people into ROTC. It's my job to present the options and help them get a scholarship and/or enter ROTC if they so choose. I'm looking for people who want to be Army officers either full-time for 4 years or part-time. Makes no difference to me whether they want to go Active Duty or Reserves just as long as they want to be an officer.
