KY3 has been saying that according to a Hindu newspaper, they've collected enough money to post bond for Sujith Kumar Venkatramolla and he could be released as early as this afternoon.

Anyone else find this ridiculous?

It's not on their website yet, but they were saying it on the news at noon and early this morning.

He has as much right as anyone else to bail I suppose. I really don't want to get into ANOTHER flame war, but last I checked, if he can make bail, he is entitled to be released. If the Judge believed he was a flight risk, he would have been kept on remand.... I should mention I learned everything I know about law from Law and Order and here......

That is all well and dandy, but my first impression was that if this newspaper raised and put up the bond, they don't think he did anything wrong. That is probably not the case, but it was my first impression.

According to the Miner, his bail was lowered from 250,000 to 100,000.

He won't get the help he needs unless he stays in the system. Letting him out on bond isn't a problem, but waiving his charges would be silly.

I could use another day off.

I meant in the long-term though. Locking him up in jail after the trial is a bad idea. Ideally, they'll get him help and let him go back home

Why would it be rediculous? If I can post bond, then I should be able to leave--if I don't come back, then I'll lose my bail money AND I'll have a warrant on my head.

If he leaves, good riddance. I hope India is a non-extradition country. But my guess is that if he DOES go back his family will disown him and cut ties. He'll have to live as a renegade and a thief. But on the plus side, he can probably work tech support for $3.50 an hour and make a killing as far as Indians are concerned.
