Okay, so I live in TJ and have become rather used to having a DVR of some sort at my disposal. I know there are plenty of TV tuner cards around, trouble is I have a laptop, and honestly I'm not a fan of watching TV on my laptop even with USB tuners.

So can you get digital cable / dvr service in TJ through Fidelity (since TJ pays for extended basic in the first place)? If so, is it even worth it? Any idea how much?

I knew someone who had digital cable in the dorms, I think you just have to pay for the box. So you may be able to get a DVR. You're probably best off calling Fidelity

never heard about dvr in the dorms, but they do broadcast all the local HD channels + TNTHD already in the dorms if you have an HD QAM tuner. not exactly what you want, but it might help

i hear it is 10$/month for the box,

on a side note,a friend of mine at SMS was tired of the bandwidth limitation that the school put on the dorms, so he called the cable company and ordered cable internet. He then split the cost with another friend or two and just had cat5 running through the hallway/out the window.

It's not just 10 bucks for the box, you have to pay extra for the digital channel tier, and obviously if you have any pay channels. I have a dvr, and all the pay channels + digital channels, I think it costs me about 60 bucks a month.
