Could someone please tell me why people have written "UMR SUX" and "I hate UMR" and "This place stinks" all over various desks on campus?

I'm not sure about the first two, but "this place stinks" could be referring to all the swampies...

Well, the good news is come January they will all be silly scribblings of ancient times.

Or it could be a conspiracy by the administration to promote the name change.

My thought has always been that if you don't like UMR, leave, don't bitch about it on school desks. lol

i don't get that either. this isn't a middle school, or an urban high school.

Another thought.. so many people bitch about how nerdy or whatever it is here, but they never do anything about it they just sit around and play their video games as well. Don't complain about something if you aren't going to do something about it! If you don't do something to improve the situation, you're part of the problem!

I've never had a problem with them, reading all of the stuff gives me something to do in physics.

My roommate does that. He bitches to no end about how UMR is too nerdy for him and there isn't enough artsy stuff on campus... and yet he plays WoW constantly, rarely leaves, and doesn't go to musicals and performances when we do have them.

wtf is there to do. I am one of the people that bitch about all the nerdy people, yet I dont play WoW or Halo or shit. I just do my homework, have a job, and play sports. What else do you expect out of me. Im gonna bitch all I want.

I didn't say not to bitch.. I said not to bitch if you're just adding to the problem by playing the video games and avoiding social contact. -Nothing wrong with the video games, but keep it in perspective. Hell, actually I don't care if all you do is play video games. I just don't want people who do to complain about it being nerdy. Everyone else can complain all they want.

The school has a big reputation as a nerd school. And of all the schools out there, you came here... I mean, you have the right to bitch, but it's not gonna change anything.

Exactly. A lot of people like to complain, "There's nothing to do in Rolla, LOLLZORZ," but seem to never show up to the SUB functions, or KMNR's concerts, or the free film festival, or WANG, or participate in sports, or enjoy the countryside Rolla has to offer, or... Should I keep going or have I made my point?

I was talking to someone on the internet last night whom I will be working with this summer. She has been from New York all her life. Anyway I guess she started googling for UMR, rolla, and such and here are the questions she randomly asked me (she found these on her own):

What is powdered donut day?
Is the food really that bad?
Are there really that few girls?
How boring is it?

It was actually kinda funny. I'm not sure which websites she found these on, but I don't think it was seek. But overall I like it, and even if it isn't as ideal of a place as a larger more academically diverse school, the benefits of the education and reputation outweight that of other schools.
