I like to think I was pretty good at the cs_speedball back in the day but I haven't played in ages. Damn you, Linux!

actually, I know for a fact wine v. 0.9.44 will run CS 1.6 beautifully, or if you're not into cs anymore, check out http://www.warsow.net (imagine q3 on crack) it runs in *nix & win32 just fine. Both games are supported on the UMR Game Servers

Warsow still has the wonky Q2 rocket physics where it fires about 10-20ms behind you. I think. Haven't tried it in a while. Maybe they fixed it. Need to see if Urban Terror was/is any good these days.

Warsow changes quite a bit each major release, as they are still in early beta. Give it another shot. IMO not the best DM game at all (Q3 Promode > *), but it's worth playing and it may improve.
I went to check out the servers there were online a week or so ago and there were none. I then continued to my bookmarked page that had a link to the Gaming page on the umr.edu domain (which redirected to the MST domain) and there was a notice saying they took the servers down.
Anyone know why they would have done this? Granted there probably weren't too many people that played on them, but it's ONE server. How much could it cost to maintain, honestly?
As a side note. I would like to see an Unreal Tournament 3 (or at least 2004) dedicated server up, still. Anyone has any ideas, PM me

i wouldn't mind having some sort of server up again. I would occasionally jump on the CSS when it would say it had people on it only to find nothing. Just lately nobody wants to play on the on campus server with awesome ping and prefers to play off campus servers with extreme lagg and die alot. I bet if they threw up a server with a newer game such as cod4 or tf2 and then actually made and attempt to let people know if say around 5 people got on at once it might actually attract more people if they checked it out. Sadly once a server empties it can be hard to refill it so instead everyone goes to the internet servers again....
Good news. ACM is bringing back on campus servers with tournaments to win free pizza. Right now armegatron and Warsow should be running on acmgame.device.mst.edu
We have also talked about looking into getting COD4 or TF2 running as well. Player with the highest score in Warsow between 7-8pm on Saturday wins a free pizza. More details to come.

To find out what's running, email one of the ACM officers. You can find them out at http://acm.mst.edu I've graduated and am out of Rolla, so I don't know the status of the servers.

I don't know about MST running any CSS servers, but PIXELATED has a dedicated CSS server up and running: doom.pixelated.com:27015 I'm not sure what kind of latency to expect though, looks like all traffic from MST to PIXELATED is routed through morenet to STL then back through embarq.
