Anyone know how to connect to the UMR VPN from Linux? Specifically Ubuntu Gutsy? I installed the pptp-client package and the Network Manger plugin for it, but when I try to connect, I get this error in the system log and from Network Manager:

I'm guessing I don't have the settings right (I'm using vpn.umr.edu with all of the default settings that were checked in the VPN setup). Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks

The good news is, UMR runs a cisco ipsec vpn, so you have two options:
1) search google for cisco "vpnclient" and you'll be able to find a Linux version (proprietary)
2) or... you can use an oss alternative: vpnc

UMR IPSEC INFORMATION: (copied from my vpnc config)
IPSec gateway vpn.umr.edu
IPSec ID UMRIPSec
IPSec secret UMRIPSec
Xauth username [your userid]
Xauth password [your password]

Cool, thanks. I'll have to boot into Linux and give that a shot.

I got it working using vpnc from command line, but I'm lazy and like GUIs, so I tried setting it up using the vpnc plugin for Network Manager, but that doesn't work so well. Whenever I connect from Network Manager, it removes all settings for my DNS servers, so nothing works, unless I want to memorize IPs or re-add the DNS servers every time, and it doesn't seem to be routing anything through VPN, even though in the settings I set it to route 131.151.0.0/16 through VPN. If I can get it working that way, it would be great. If not, I can deal with the command line.

vpnc is the only way I've gotten it to work. I sent IT directions a year ago for them to add to there IT help documents on their website and they never did.

IT rocks woo!

Can someone update this for the new MST VPN???

Edit:

I figured it out

IPSec gateway vpn.mst.edu
IPSec ID MoS&TIPSec
IPSec secret MoS&TIPSec
Xauth username [your userid]
Xauth password [your password]

I also found that network manager vpnc plugin works well
