For those of you who have not been to mstforums I am one of the new political writers for the Miner. I started posting my column there so I could get advice on how to write better, get a chance to hear others opinion's on the topic, and to get more people interested in a newspaper known for being full of fail. With that in mind here is my latest column which is on the federal reserve.

Wow. Work on your writing first. Start with parallelism -- that should take you to eighth grade level.

To ajabeg, or however it is spelled.

He has a point, you could have made the exact same point in a much nicer, possibly more productive tone.

Whether or not you have a valid point is up to taft, but from a 3rd party's perspective, you are being a useless troll.

Sorry, guyz

I was only trying to help. OK -- maybe I was trying to come off as an asshole, but it was funny. I just don't think he's a good writer.

Grow a sense of humor. I should've remembered that people don't go to MST for English -- won't happen again!

I'll agree I'm not a good writer in the English sense. I just decided to be a bit harsh to steer conversation away from just a criticism of my or the Miner's writing form and more towards our delivery, content, and analysis. Things were a bit obnoxious on MSTforums for a bit so it seemed prudent to get that out of the way.

Either way the new article is out, this one is about making St. Pats a federal holiday. I thought the topic was pretty pathetic and since most people reading it were going to be drunk I went with a different style. http://themissouriminer.com/content/view/2064/49/

No, it wasn't funny, it was meant as an insult. Your comment was pointless and unneeded.

To Battalion, I haven't yet had time to read it, but when I do, I'll be sure to leave constructive comments. Thanks for presenting your work here.

You made the other political columnists write under a pen name to protect your name but you go around and post who the other writers are without their consent? I don't get it.

Both ajabegg and battalion are inciting each other and giving completely non-constructive criticism.

Battalion: You were a huge troll on mstf and it was rather annoying. Towards the end you had been tempered, but let's skip the antagonism and go straight to meaningful debates.

ajabegg: You've got to get some respect around here before you even think about laying into people. You'll get ripped a new one if you try this shit. Do yourself a favor and don't troll.

I didn't make anyone do anything. His name is consistently listed in the writers section while no column appears under his name, and the "new" Republican writer has exactly the same name as him. It's fairly simple to deduce his identity. I am thinking of dropping the pen name though, I wanted it so I would have time to practice before I made a complete ass out of myself.

I didn't know writers for the Miner wrote under pen name...that drips a bit with irony.

You know what's ironic... is that the Mineshaft started because they said they could produce a more quality paper with less of a budget than the Miner. But slowly and surely they've been requesting more and more funding...

Well sure; if you can get it, milk it for all it's worth. I think if they wanted to keep their moral high ground, they should have stayed underground and not taken RSO status. Now I don't honestly know if that was a viable option. However, I haven't seen a Mineshaft all year and nobody's been talking about it, but yet they're in my budget. And even given that the Miner isn't on par with the NY Times and doesn't try to be, I've still at least heard press over it, whether good or bad.

Am I just missing these Mineshafts? I don't go in Havener all that often, you know, offcampusFTW and whatnot.

Mineshaft is on a hiatus of some sorts.. the reasons I've heard mention getting funding for a printer, but no printing supplies.. which is dumb, considering it's main distribution source was electronic. It should have been working on the steam it had built last time. and by the time they start producing again, there will be students who won't know about the suits. and they won't care about it.

meh. I just want it back ASAP. Lordofstars/benladen talk to the people you passed it on to and start it up again! the physical copies were nice, but i never picked one up. I just want the paper with decent music reviews again.
