Ever since the campus changed the network over from UMR to MST, I haven't been able to access the VPN on OS X by using the Cisco VPN client that the helpdesk says to use. It would work before the name change, but now the directions that the helpdesk has don't seem to be working. I can get a VPN working on my desktop (which is Windows XP).
You might have to go in to the helpdesk (in the library for those that don't know) and ask them for a new client. They were no help to me when I was first setting up until I actually went in and asked them.

Assuming you're using Leopard, I haven't had to use the Cisco VPN client. I wrote a how to in the Tutorial section. Check it out and let me know it that works for you

No, I'm using Tiger. The computer in question is a PowerBook G4, and I don't think it's worth it to upgrade since I don't have an Intel processor. I wish it were that easy.

I have a 15" Powerbook G4 1.67GHz with 1.5GB of RAM and it runs well. I used VPN before on Tiger without using the client, so I'll try to remember the steps and write it up for you.

Running Leopard on the same configuration (but with 2 gigs RAM) and it runs quite well.
Over the weekend, I upgraded my parents' Mac Mini (1.5GHz G4 w/ 1GB RAM) from Tiger to Leopard and the speed has actually improved. It's definitely worth the upgrade, even if you don't have an Intel Mac.

Any suggestions?
Did the problem start this week?
For your user name, try using:
mst-users\[username]
Since they changed the domain on Monday I have had to use that for minermail and other applications.
As a previous poster said, make sure you are using vpn.mst.edu
I can only get the Cisco client to work when I use the old Group name and password of "UMRIPSec" and not the new one with "MSTIPSec". I just use my username, nothing before or after it.
Also, for those of you using Leopard, does it still route all your traffic through the VPN? It did that in Tiger so I stopped using it and instead went with the Cisco client so the VPN would not not affect my web browsing because it really slowed it down. Also, I do know the Cisco client allows multiple connections through a NAT, which is very helpful.
I also recommend a program called Shimo to install with the Cisco software so it will remember your password and gives you some auto-connect options.
