That is a fantastic upload speed... but... yeah. I have to admit, I haven't had to deal with the new system... but from the looks of it, the tiered 3000/512/256 setup was a lot nicer and more reliable.

Christ this fucking sucks. How the hell could they do this to the people who pay the MOST on campus as far as living expenses go? This is wholly retarded. Fucking RC net.
Edit: Looking more closely at the post above mine...why the hell is the wireless so much faster? This makes no sense. IT needs to get their shit together

yeah, wow. Just yesterday I was at 13Mpbs Download, and 8MPbs upload. No lie.
Now hard lined, my laptop:
Now wireless MST-PSK, roommates laptop:
Why does the hard line suck?
The comparison is only good if both computers are registered to the same user. After you burn through a certain amount of bandwidth each hour, you get extra throttling, or at least that is how I understood it.

Sorry, I did that just after I posted, and didn't feel like editing my post. It had the same results, so I left it.

The reason it's so slow on Wired-LAN is because of the new POS throttler the university installed this year. They got rid of the old, nice, bandwidth tier system and installed this shit. They give administration offices, research labs and the such top priority. Wireless is a little lower but still really high. Wired-LAN for residents' halls is very low on the priority list. It is a problem with all the res. halls. Torrents has the lowest priority. If you think its just the Res Halls network problems, try going to the front desk and plugging into the LAN there. I work the front desk at TJ and I routinely get 15000+kbps download from the wired-LAN. I am part of TJHA and RHA and we are trying to get this bullshit fixed. IT had come to an RHA meeting and I asked them why our internet was so slow. They said they "didn't know" why it was going to slow. The people at the help desk in the library fed me some bullshit saying that the internet is so slow because they are maxed out on bandwidth 24 hours a day. FYI, we have a 1 Gbps primary internet line WITH a 45 Mbps backup line. There is no fucking way we are using that much internet bandwidth without the ability to torrent at high speeds. I got the e-boards of QHA, RCA, and TJHA to start running speed tests on speedtest.net with both wired-LAN as well as wireless. I got an average of 12000+kbps down with wireless and an average of about 500-800kbps down on LAN. We need to either get IT to go back to the tier system or unlimit our wired-LAN internet. I didn't start paying IT more money so that I can have slower internet. Anyway, my rant is done.
