I was considering buying a pair of
Open Box Western Digital Caviar SE WD5000AAJS 500GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s
from newegg, only 60$ for each to throw into a RAID0 for a personal file server,
Does anyone have any history with Newegg's open box stuff? I cant really beat the price anywhere...

I've had good luck with it and the people I know that've bought open box from newegg have... like mobos coming with all the extras and stuff

If it's in a file server I doubt I'd raid0 it though. You don't need the speed/risk if all you're doing is storing stuff...

Its more for the volume over performance, and none of it is especially sensitive. It would suck to bring all the data back together, but it wouldnt kill me if one of the drives failed.

I've bought many open box items from newegg over the years and I have only had to return one of them. I already picked up two of those drives.... :D

pff you don't need 16mb if all you're doing is storing stuff on it :P

An 8mb cached drive will sit there filled with your gigglebytes just as well as a 16 haha
