God Damnit!

I finally find a department I like, and they go and kill it. I can get out of here before it's too late, but for those of you that were hoping to use it as a fallback, too bad.

More info to come...

No shit... Well, hope that's the only department to go.

As long as I understand this correctly I am safe (thank god), it is too bad for all the people who come after though because IDE is an awesome major and perfect for those people who want to be designers. Anyway here is the link to the letter from Provost Wray. http://provost.mst.edu/documents/IDE.PDF

I can't say I blame (or even disagree with) them after reading that, but its still a shame to see a department go. It sounds like they're doing a reasonable job to make sure no-one gets royally fucked by this. Sorry for those who get a bit screwed, though - or who were considering IDE.

Relevant to University Budget Slashing so i thought I'd post it here.

Apparently one of the cost cutting measures is to take 2% from salaries and divert it to the individual faculty member's Pension (which was previously contributed to by the University). Essentially its a 2% pay cut for faculty.

2% is not bad at all compared to most in industry lucky enough to keep their jobs

If they get rid of my department, well, I don't think that will ever happen. Of course I'm sure some of you would love it...

id like to point out that if their wasnt a useless name change maybe there would still be enough money left to keep the IDE department going. although this is probably only 1 example of the "administrations" mistakes. sry im still pissed over the name change.

edit: when will they learn to quit wasting our money on that stuff, we need better facilities not aquariums.

If you want to see a "creative use" of tuition dollars, stop by the 2nd floor of UC East--wait, they changed THAT name too--Centennial Hall, and check out the Provost's new digs. While you're up there check out the office for Summer Programs, and their sweet ass 150-gallon aquarium.

I'm with whohaw mostly about the money thing, but I still hated how the top person manipulated all the stats to get what he wanted. Change may not be a horrible thing, but it's got to be unbiased and the name change was anything but that. But enough on that, I don't want to start a flame war.

I'm not sure how much of this I was suppose to hear, so let's just say that I'm fairly sure that IDE will not be the last one to go.

peace
