Is it still practical for me to be in the wait-list because I've been added to all of my other wait-listed classes but this one and I really want to take Econ 122 because I hear its a better class. Should I email the professor to ask if I can be put into the class? I am currently number 1 on the wait-list position.

Go to the first class session. He should have a list of officially registered people and a list of wait-listed people. Some professors just add the waitlist people if they show up to the first class. Also, chances are high that people will drop the class within the first few classes, so if you're number 1, you should get in easily enough.
Pretty much just show up to class, even if you're on a waitlist. This should be done for any waitlisted class. If the professor sees that you're dedicated to coming to class, even if you're not officially added, they'll generally add you. The only issue that could prevent this is if they have a strict limit on the number of students in a class.

email the prof. Get a jump on things here. If you show some initiative, and they are on the fence about wanting to allow waitlisted students in the class, you'll probably be ok. It will also give you a heads up if there is no chance. GLHF.

I was also told by a prof that because of high volume, they have a buffer, where the first few in line on the wait list will get in, or the ones that need it immediately to stay on track for graduation. Anyway, your problem has been solved!
