Saw that on TH this morning.
If they didn't sign anything about being recorded in a contract with the school, that is incomprehensibly unconstitutional.
In fact, it's a public, government-run high school. I don't believe it's legal for them to put anything about diminishing one's privacy in any form of contract. Unless the computers were given by a third party for student use.
If I was given a computer for my personal use, you bet the first thing I would do is wipe it and make sure nothing is sneaking out the backdoor.

God, think of all the pre-teen boys, fapping away at the Internet at the speed of something that faps really fast.
Now the school officials connect to the computer, peering through the webcam, only to witness the kid's wad shoot all over their screen. Talk about a digital facial.

Saw this story on a listserv for IT admins of Illinois schools. Here was one comment someone found and posted to that list:
