I'm looking to start a new student organization for disc golf. I was looking and we don't have one, which really surprised me. So I went to student life and talked to them and it takes quite a bit of work to get a new organization started, but I'm serious about doing it if we have enough interest in it. I think it could really take off...it is more open to non-athletes than Ultimate. And we all know most of us are not serious athletes. It's a really fun, casual game for all skill levels. Anyway, I have noticed quite a few people playing at The Centre's new course and work has been started on a new 18-hole championship course at Lion's Club. I hope to have a competition team set up alongside the casual component of the organization. I would like to have several outings through the year, with disc golf barbecue days and things like that, along with weekly casual games. I also have some great outside contacts lined up, such as Gateway Discs, among others. To wrap up this long post...I am just trying to gauge interest in a new organization to get it started. The more interest we have, the easier it will be to get official approval. I am open to any ideas and feedback.
Thanks everyone!! Let me know what you guys think!!
At first, I thought watching some grown guys throwing a frisbee like it was a rabid squirrel was goofy as hell. But apparently, for me, throwing something like its a rabid squirrel is hugely addicting.

there was one, it was just thrown in with the ultimate club from what I remember. There was even a course on campus using landmarks as holes, I used to have the map somewhere.
I am on the disc golf committee at the Lion's club, work in the IT department, and teach for the MBA program. If you are serious about this and need a sponsor, I would be willing to sponsor your group.
As for the course, weather has not been cooperating this year. Had we been blessed with typical Missouri weather for January and February, we were hoping to be done in mid March. Either way, we are hoping to have it done to present as a gift to the community before our 75th Anniversary celebration in April.
The only major change is that the cedar bridges at holes 17 and 14 have been combined into one which is roughly half way between the current position on the map.
James, it would be awesome to take you up on the offer. I have been trying to figure out who I should ask and it really helps that you are on the Lion's Club committee. I'm hoping to get a meeting with some initial members within the next week or two to hopefully get the constitution done. I obtained a copy from the Student Life office that we can use as a template or just pick components and ideas from it that we like to integrate into our own. I can contact you when I figure out the time and place of the meeting if you would like.
Oh...and I know quite a few people who are really excited about the course at Lion's Club.
Email me at tharp@mst.edu, or feel free to stop by my office in 102 computer Science if you need anything from me. I look forward to helping get this off the ground!!
So it looks like we are going to have a meeting to try to finalize the club's constitution this Sunday in the Havener Atrium at 6pm. I would also like to get an initial member list for Student Life and also for a possible email listserv. Hopefully we can get the forms turned in next week and get this thing going. The more people we have as initial members, the easier it should be to get the group approved. There are also some other things, such as possible activites that we may already have lined up, that we would like to discuss. If you can't make it, then just send me a message with your name and email if you would like to be on the initial member list.
Meeting tonight is still on for 6pm at Havener atrium. If you would like to be on the initial member list, I can put your name on at the meeting or just pm me your name and email.
