Donald Knuth, who might be considered one of the chosen ones of Computer Science, has for the past years made independent lectures he calls Computer Musings.

Supposedly, these lectures are available for download from the Stanford Center for Professional Development. However, I had yet to get these videos to stream successfully. Torrent alternatives, like this from TPB, have been dead for years.

The alternative is iTunes. Stanford has an iTunes repository, and Knuth himself says some of the videos are available for download on iTunes.

Can somebody verify his lectures are available on the Stanford iTunes repository, and download them? I would like to get a hold of this archive.

Stanford's iTunes repository is located here: http://itunes.stanford.edu/
Computer Musings, on Knuth's page: http://www-cs-faculty.stanford.edu/~knuth/musings.html

Unsurprisingly, the files on his website play fine in Windows Media Player, mostly because they're .asx files, a format that was developed by Microsoft for streaming their .asf files (which don't seem to play in anything other than WMP).

Additionally, why aren't you downloading them yourself? It doesn't cost anything to set up an iTunes account and if you're getting stuff free you don't need to give them a credit card number.

Linux is the main reason why I didn't try it myself. Bandwidth limitations is a running-up reason. Someone on campus, with iTunes already setup and ready to download at breakneck speeds could get a hold of the video lectures far quicker than I can.

I am setting up a Windows XP virtual machine right now. Hopefully I can grab the ASX streams using Wireshark.

Thanks for testing this blitz.
