Ok, now I'm looking at graphics cards. Awhile back the 275 GTX looked pretty attractive, but it seems ATI is besting Nvidia on price and performance points. I'm partial to EVGA and Nvidia, so I have a desire to stay with them... but if the money's right well...

I'd like to keep it around $200-300, but I'd like 2-3 years out of this card. (Fewer years are acceptable since I'll most likely have a job and will be able to upgrade sooner than I could now).

Also would like to have opportunities to try some GPGPU stuff.

And go.

As I've said before. Sapphire Vapor-X HD 5770. Although the stock is slightly overclocked, the real winner is the cooling system that allows for more OC over other brands. So, best bang for the buck in my opinion and yes I have one. Once I upgrade my cpu cooler I'm going to OC the whole system.

I had turned my eye to the 5770.. but I was thinking more the XFX HD 5770. It's cheaper (nvmd it's $5 less, doesn't count) and has a slightly higher stock clock.

So what I'm wondering, how easy is the Sapphire Vapor-X HD 5770 to overclock? And what's so awesome about the cooling.. Looks a tiny bit different, links to good reviews?

I haven't forgotten about you just yet. I have all the links on another computer and just haven't gotten to it yet. But what I remember is that it overclocks all right though not amazingly, but it is a lot cooler and draws a lot less power with still very comparable performance.

The cooler is a vacuum chamber surrounded by 'wicks' that act like heatpipes to get heat away quickly. I'm not sure how this compares to say a copper heatsink since I've got no idea what the liquid is or how fast it 'wicks', but it seems to work for them.

All right, here's the manufacturer's spheal for the card and for vapor-x, a good review and comparison as far as heat and performance goes, one that covers overclocking, aaaand another overclock with a different set of programs.

Hopefully that's all you will ever need.
