http://gizmodo.com/5571171/iphone-4-loses-reception-when-you-hold-it-by-the-antenna-band

I think Apple is a great company and they make amazing products, but I dislike a lot of their ethics (locked down feature sets, carrier exclusives, etc) and I really dislike AT&T, and so I would never get an iPhone.

But I would think that what I know about antennas from my internship at Garmin, that this would be a no brainer for an RF engineer. Is it just a prime example of marketing and designers overruling engineers?

Its sad that instead of delaying an obviously flawed phone, they decided to put out this 'bumper case'. I've been wondering why Apple would put out their own case instead of leaving it to third-party vendors as they have been doing.

if the product name starts with a lowercase i, it is a piece of shit. it's not necessary to say anything more, but I will anyway.

I mean, really. putting a lowercase letter like e or i infront of your product name to signify that it is electronic or talks to the internet was cliche in 1997.

apple is for people who buy organic cappuchinos, enjoy explaining how simple something can be in an overly complex manner, and believe earnestly in feng shui.

if this in any way urks you, or you disagree with it enough to respond, you probably fit into one of those categories. even if you don't, whatever you are about to say, we've heard it before from someone else.

also, i wrote this all on a macintosh

I don't know how far I would go with that but I agree to some extent.

I think apple mobile products are perfect for people who are not incredible computer savvy. The general pick up and go user who wants to pick up a phone and have it work and be very intuitive, it is the phone they should use (well before this iPhone 4 came out that is). Anyone who is savvy, like us, should probably go with an android or palmOS device that is highly customizable, but less user friendly (at least until Gingerbread comes out?).

This is why I'm waiting for my Evo to come in the mail, hopefully tonight or tomorrow?

I just have to laugh at how Apple-lovers swoon and faint every time Steve Jobs talks about a "NEW!" feature in an Apple product.

You know, revolutionary things such as multi-tasking, folders, setting a background/wallpaper. Things of that nature.

What a pioneer!

Seeing as I'm basically tied to AT&T (not by contract, but rather convenience: 1/2 off on plans & services) my only choice right now is the iPhone 4.

I'm not by anymeans an apple fan (actually I hate the fans, and the company), but I do like the iPhone 4. The service dropping when you connect the antennas is obviously a design flaw, and one I'll just have to deal with. Seems like apple knows about this flaw, and that's why they came out with their own case for the first time. The "yellow screen" bands/dots I won't settle for, however.

As far as the rest of the design goes - I think its a pretty good phone, and is very competitive with the other options available today.

why not just get a 3gs? or a blackberry?

I don't care about the iphone 4's features if you can only use them if you don't touch the sides

And it's been reported that the bumper case will fix the problem. So the fix for a problem that shouldn't exist in the first place is to give Apple more money. And the fanboys are completely accepting of that.

I love my Nexus One. Completely open operating system, and I can actually hold it in my hand. Amazing! And as soon as I get the Froyo update, I'll have mobile WiFi hotspot capability without having to pay extra.

I actually don't like BBs. I do however, like my iPod Touch. But I'd like to not have to carry around a phone and iPod. I don't know of a better media player on the AT&T network than the iPhone 4. The 3gs is so fragile I wouldn't use it without a case, so the need to use a case with the 4 is not really a change.

I'm still pissed off at Apple. There's no way they didn't know this is a problem. It's obviously a case of Jobs & the deign team not listening to the engineers when they said "we need to cover up the antenna". Why else would they release their own case to cover just the antenna? It's just another reason to hate Apple.

But I'll still take an iPhone 4 over the 3gs any day. Its bullshit I have to hold it a special way if I want to use it caseless, but I prefer to keep a silicone case on my iPod. It helps me hold it better, and the rubbery back & sides help it stay in my pocket or wherever I set it. I assume thats what I'll do with the iPhone 4.

Contract is up for renewal on my phone. Figured I might as well kill 2 birds with one stone.

The quote was the answer to LB's question. The rest of the post was more reasons why he wants an iPhone.

I love mine too! Why wait for the over-the-air update though? As long as the update is manually downloaded from a google server I trust it and had no problems updating mine. I'm loving the new features and I'm already excited to be one of the first to see the Gingerbread update this October.
