That's a good question. I think a better one is what have they done in the past couple years. This is my fourth year at UMR and I cannot name one thing they have done that has had any real impact on this school. As of late they have accomplished the new student IDs. Which in my opinion really doesn't change much except the fact that the Univ. will make more money from vending machines etc. Also they have accomplished the great feat of getting us one dead day without class. When it comes down to it I would've rather started finals a day earlier so I can get the hell outta here sooner. And I've heard of some savid thing that I have no idea what it is. I figure it only affects people who live in the dorms, so congratulations they've done another thing that is of no use to the other 1500 ppl that go to school here. If they want to do something of some actual importance, maybe they could try to get our tuition lowered, or get the bookstore to not rape every student here, or maybe build a building that's useful other than a new version of UCEast that students might actually hang out in. Do those suggestions help?
Okay... SAVID. Savid is the tour things with the computer monitors flashing clocks and ads on campus. There is one by UCW, one in front of Civil by the Composite Bridge, and one between the library and HSS.
not that they are overly usefull, but it was started before we got here, we're just trying to get it to work.

i believe SAVID stands for "streaming audio video information display" and turned out to be a $1.5 million set of three radios with only one channel that display ads.

Did you know the students are paying for those ID's? Yeah, with the extra money we pay StuCo with. It wasn't something they had in their budget, it's just extra money that they collected. If they didn't spend it, then they wouldn't get that much or more next semester.
ID's... Phhhh.... The students paid for those not the school. Something like $5-8 per student I beleave.

Still cheaper than the $10 for a new ID card right now or what they would undoubtedly charge when they eventually moved over sometime.

Did you know that students can get those new green ID's (sic) for free after the last PRO session in April? Yeah, with the allotment StuCo used to implement the new system. It wasn't something they tried to stick on the students, it's just that current students are so anxious to get the new IDs that they're willing to pay for them to have them now. If they didn't spend it, then they wouldn't get their IDs till they show up for classes next semester.
And even if you are talking about the allotment itself...where do you think the University gets its operating funds anyway? It's not like you wouldn't have had to pay your $5-8 in anyway; you might as well get something halfway useful out of it.
Do you really think the school, as an entity, really pays for anything anyway? It's not a corporation, it's a public center for education. It exists for the purpose of spending other people's money. If this is news to you, I'm sorry your parents never bothered to enlighten you on the joys of free enterprise and the American way--namely, spend money you don't make.

Actually the most of the money is coming from the Equipment and Contingency Fund if I remember correctly. That is a different Student Activity Fee Fund. So I guess you could still say the students are paying for it. Since students’ tuition is a major source of income for the university I guess you could say that the student pay for anything the university buys.

What does MU do?
Jack shit for transfers...
But then again I don't know what UMR does for transfers. I'm sure MU's normal Freshman welcome is better. I didn't get to do that... I got the snubbed, "hi, you are at MU, it's a big school, here's a map, here's your advisors room number, good luck!". My advisor rocks, but the actual transfer thing wasn't all that hot.

I didn't think our freshmen welcoming was that great. I mean--we had "the mission" (operation: try to keep the students busy), and some guy gave a speech (not neglecting his midwestern duty to fit God into his speech. The crowd of course went apeshit).

Haha umr doesn't do squat for transfers either-you saw how clueless I was when i got here!! No idea when the useless meeting was, where it was, when to move in...guessing was fun. The only way I knew my way around was I visited a lot last year to see Finney up here and we roamed around campus a lot.
Yeah...I used my intro week productively as well.....
That would have been impossible if I went to the activities....and from what I can tell, the freshman intro this year was still better than the one I had.
