I just got a email saying StuCo Officers are going to try to pass a motion Tuesday raising their semester wages to the following:

President $1500
VP of External Affairs $ 1250
VP of Internal Affairs $1250
Treasurer $1000
Recorder $1000

This is per Semester by the way. So that would be $12,000 per year the students of UMR are paying StuCo Exec. Or about $2 from every student in Rolla (Dorms, Greek, Independant).

As far as I know, SUB doesn't pay their people, and I know RHA, IFC and Panhel members don't get paid, even though we put just as much time into our organizations

Thanks for trying to interpret what I wrote, but if you are stupid don't try again. I wrote the Bill to increase officer compensation, for a good deal more reasons than will be listed here, however let me clear a few things up. Also be reminded none of the current officers will be back next year, except Ms. Rosemann.

The increase would be $250 per officer per year, not per semester. Leaving the rates, well below peer institutions who pay their Officers more than we do combined. The increases would be as follows:

President: 1250-->1500
Vice Presidents: 1000-->1250
Secretary & Treasurer: 750--->1000
so for the whole year it would be $6000.

This will also have to pass SAFB in the fall and take effect in the 05-06 School year.

Before this turns into another anti StuCo thread, what are your reasons?

Wow this is very interesting after StuCo has the balls to try to cut the salaries of the editors of the Miner and basically could give two shits about KMNR and Miner funding.

I am a current and exiting officer, who saw officers that put more than 20 hours per week into their jobs. This includes meetings (5-10 per week), committee projects(2-6 depending on the officer);clearing up student issues(3-5) If you put that out to just one semester at a resonable rate of $6.50 that comes out to be $2300. So the current rate of compensation is well below what would even be considered decent. Also please be reminded that the attempt to cap other officer's pay in other organizations was orcestrated by one individual, whom we all know well, not "stuco".

Thanks for the reasons. I am under the impression that StuCo is volunteer based though?

For smaller jobs, I can see that, however expecting work to get done, that takes any reasonable person about 20 hours per week to get done and not paying them is unfair. I am not going to argue this here though, I will argue it infront of Council Tuesday March 9th at 6:30p.m. in 204 Mc Nutt Feel free to come yourself.

Shouldn't something like this be put to a campus wide vote since it is how our money is being put to use?

Also there are a number of student organizations like the student design teams that put in more than 20 hours a week. These people should also get paid by the student body activity fees. This would allow you to have a valid argument about the number of hours you work a week.

Third, I believe that the majority of campus jobs pay minumum wage of $5.15 an hour not $6.50 that would mean your $2300 would actually be $1800.

You forget that no student is supposed to be paid for more than 16 hours every 2 weeks.
