Vid card question...

Alright...this is for my second computer...so don't give me crap about having crappy vid cards. The current setup is a generic 2D vid card paired with a 12MB Voodoo2. I have a 16 MB voodoo3.

Would it help to leave the 2 in boosting the 3, or should I use it in another computer?

I'm running mandrake linux 9.2 btw...

the v3's are actial cards not accelerators

but i dont think the v2's are doing much, all they do is make 2d cards 3d compliant, they dont make things better for alredy 3d cards

thats just my belief i cant say i would personally know

i've got another voodoo2 card sitting at home, if you've got one of those cables that will let 2 voodoo2's run in parallel, you can have mine. i'm not even sure if it works. .

Wow, this thread is total flashback territory. *thumbs up* to Voodoo 2's.. haha..

but. anyways, you can run the Voodoo 2 and 3 at the same time (if one is PCI and the other is AGP), but as stated before, they can't both be used as graphics accelerators at the same time but.. you can use them to run a dual monitor setup.

Well, dammit. Ur called it.
I wish I could've posted earlier. It would've been awesome to get some sort of 3D accelerator on my crappy-ass Matrox G100.

Ummm, just to clear things up...

Voodoo2's are just 3D add-on cards. They have no 2D of their own. They just run a 3D overlay to the 2D cards. Voodoo2's cannot be used in a multi-monitor setup (no 2D).

adding a voodoo2 to a voodoo3 is pointless and will result in lower speed. The voodoo3 is just a voodoo2 + 2D and at twice the clock speed (same output as two voodoo2's in SLI mode)

now, if the drivers let you (highly doubtful), you could hook the two voodoo2's to the 2d card you already have, and run it along with your voodoo3 to run a dual-monitor setup.
