Does any store around Rolla actually get games on their release dates?
Such as MVP Baseball 2004 3/9/04, but is no where to be found.

Most Wal-Marts will plop out the new console games the day they release. They're more lax when it comes to PC. Assholes.

the rolla supercenter, just like every other supercenter, gets new releases on one of the trucks the night before the release date, so the new titles go on the shelves at midnight, unless some hapless stocker doesn't realize it's new. then you can see it there as early as 10pm the night before its release date.

As for MLB 2004, it was there, it just got sold out.

I used to work in electronics at a supercenter. As far as my experience has been, they actually get their new releases as early as a month before the release date. There have been several instances where a couple of my fellow associates would go and demo a movie that hadn't been released to the public yet...but it'd wouldn't be on the floor for purchase. We'd then watch it as we were cleaning up the department of a night. Good times...

That's movies and CDs, mostly. Most of the time we had direct control over the movies. CDs would usually be brought in on release day by an outside supplier. Console games would, too, but usually the next day or even the day after that...but we ALWAYS had them out within 2 days at the most.

Not so for the PC games. There have been too many times where we've had to wait 2 weeks or longer for a game to come out after a big release day. But for instance, we always had Half-Life's expansions on the shelf within a day of release, simply because our shippers knew we'd be losing sales otherwise. And as a good techno-geek, either me or one of about 2 other guys would make sure that big games were out on the shelf when people came in looking.

Moral of the story: If you're needing a CD or DVD on release day, Wal-Mart's the place to go. If it's anything else, go to EB or some other specialty store.

I must disagree. Wal-Mart is not a reliable source if you want new games. I have tried to get many games that they did not have when they were supposed to be released. This happened for Viewtiful Joe and Battlefield 1942 to name two off of the top of my head. They didn't have them for about two weeks after they were released.

Wal-Mart sucks.
