Since there is a thread that is about Moore's new movie (I won't say it's name because I find it an offensive and inappropriate reference to a great book by a truly great author), I figured it would be appropriate to have an anti-Moore/Kerry thread to complement it. It seemed fair to me anyways.
Personally I like Bush. He freed an oppressed people and ended the genocide that was Hussein's reign over Iraq. Yes he made a few mistakes along the way, but he still did it. I don't aggree with everything he has done or all of his views, but at least I know what his views are. Kerry changes his mind so often it's hard to keep up.
Moore is an ass. I could say more but won't (it would take too long and no one would read it); I'll let someone else bash him. Either in this thread or the other one.
EDIT: Semantics pointed out by AC fixed... compliment-->complement

God dammit. Why are these two threads in the UMR section? I don't want to have to see these two float at the top (again) for the next two months. Go bitch about politics in the News forum. That section needs love too.
i really liked moore's tv show "tv nation". in one sketch he stood on the american/canadien border handing out guns because canadiens don't have guns...or something. i don't remember the point but i thought it was funny.
haven't seen farenheit 911... but bowling for columbine was good. regardless if you like him he has a couple good points. and just randomly walking into (again) canadian's houses was pretty funny. maybe i just like the canucks i don't know
and what the fuck is that movie about? it's called "michael moore hates america" but from the trailer it doesn't look like it has that much to do with michael moore. if michael moore hates america because he has a documentary out that challenges peoples point of views and tries to persuede them, then this guy is a hypocrite. and then there are interviews with immigrants saying that america is great... again what does that have to do with michael moore or any of his work?
A patriot does not blindly accept and approve of everything his country is doing. A patriot wants what's best for his country.
A patriot also approves of everyone's right to voice their opinion. It's what this country is founded on after all.
I think it was either Thomas Jefferson or Thomas Payne who said that the people of this nation should lead a bloody revolution every 20 years just to keep an honest government in place.
Reguardless of any policies or mistakes or what not by the Bush administration, I think the man should be out of office for the sole fact that he represents us to the rest of the world as a bumbling moron on a daily basis. A man with absolutely zero oratory ability should not be our president.
Moores films are nothing but lies, half truthes, trickes of editing, and lies of ommission concerning everything he does, I agree with a few of the things (not many) that he says, but he is a complete idiot, and only wants attention.
i don't get why everyone hates him SOO much. have you never written a persueasive argument for a paper in high school? (not much paper writing goes on at this school i guess-- more balancing equations and whatnot) that's what you do. you take facts, and you skew them in order to persuede the reader to believe the facts you are presenting. if you think michael moore is an ass for doing that, then so is everyone who has every tried to convince people to believe them in any argument. moore just happens to be really good at it
and no, just because what you think is best doesn't mean it's best for everyone, but that goes for everyone interested in politics. what michael moore thinks isn't best for everyone, what bush thinks isn't best for everyone, what kerry thinks isn't best for everyone, but they are trying to get things done the way they should be.
personally, i think he has some really good points, his movies are alright, i don't really love him or hate him, and i just don't get people whose faces turn bright red and start cursing when they hear the name "michael moore"... imagine how much you would hate him if you were the bush administration!
and yeah i dont think bush is a very good rep. of our county. shit, he's the punchline of so many jokes just IN our country, imagine what other people think of him (i guess this isn't that big a deal, every president i can remember was the punchline of jokes here and there)
Regardless of if you agree with him or not, you have to respect the fact that he made a movie during an election year that goes against the grain of most American's political viewpoints. He is standing up for what he believes in and trying to make a difference. He may use tactics that are wrong, but most if not all political activists do this, along with politicians.
I agree with him on some viewpoints. I'm more of a moderate than a liberal, even conservative on a handfull of issues, so he is too far left of me. Don't get me wrong....i voted for Kucinich in the Democratic primaries, but i think he is too left. I will lisetn to what he has to say though, and it is in my opinion no more biased or misleading than a Bush or Kerry campaign ad.
Oh...about Kerry. I don't like him very much. I dislike him as a person almost as much as i dislike Bush. But, i agree with him on far more issues than with Bush, so he will be getting my vote. Either that or vote for Darth Nader

Yeah, not so much. You are not supposed to SKEW the facts to prove your point. By needing to SKEW facts you are in fact DISPROVING your own point. I caught a interview of Moore on 60 minutes last night and he does make some interesting points on issues with respect to gun deaths in the US and others. However, much like reading/hearing anything by people like Ann Coulter (I recieved her latest book and it had more Nazi/Hitler comparisons than anyone should have to endure), Sean Hannity, Rush, Franken, or the other idiot extremists, you must filter through a lot of bullshit to get to the real truth. These people use sensationalism and bending the facts just enough to make it convincing, but not enough to make a fact no longer plausible. Moore and the other radicals do have interesting facts but their execution and presentation of these get lost in the over the top bashing of those who are not on the correct side of the political aisle.
For example, a clip was shown from the beginning of Moore's new movie. It begins with Bush in the Florida school the morning of 9-11. As you are shown footage of Bush reading to children you hear Moore's voiceover saying, "despite knowing a plane hit the first tower, bush continued with his PHOTO OP." "Then he continued reading for 7 minutes while we were under attack, etc, etc" Did this happen? Yes, but was it as cut and dry as he makes it seem? Hardly.
What was Bush supposed to do, or better yet, what could he have done when the first plane hit the tower? Do you think Moore would have had something to say had Bush jumped to the conclusion that we were under attack and more destruction was on the way, and he ordered any plane in dangerous airspace shot down site on seen? I'm pretty sure he'd be angry about that. As with everything, but especially things written by these people, be sure to not to think that they are wholly telling the truth, or giving you all the relevent facts of the situation.

What issues might these be? I've heard a lot of ideas floating around his campaign, but no real concrete plans.

Issues....maybe i should have used ideals, lol. What you mention about the ideas but no plans is a reason of why i don't like Kerry all that much.
I do agree with Kerry about raising the minimum wage (although seven dollars an hour is excessive), more multinational cooperation in US military action, the usual Democratic pro-enviroment positions, opposition of the Federal Marrige Amendment proposed by Bush and other Republicans, rolling back of the budget defecit, and several others.
Sadly, i'm thinking many of these are hollow campaign promises, like politicans usually make. But, with the lack of real choice in this election, i think Kerry is the best choice.
