Yep, I had that email from the alleged "Police" in my preview pane of Outlook and my AVG immediately popped up, let me know what was up, and took care of it immediately. I can't believe I ever used to think Norton was good.
Hopefully by now everyone knows not to open attachments like that, though. "Cat.com" being sent by UMR Police. Hmmm...
I'm disappointed with this variation. Some of the previous ones at least tried to appear to be legitimate. I especially liked the ones that made it seem like YOU were infected, and the attachment was supposedly a bounced infected email message you tried to send, when in fact the attachment infected you and started the process for real. Whoever started this particular variation, though, was too lazy to make it interesting.
I think this strain infected my old high school list too. I've gotten a few spoofs from an old teacher, and most bizarre of all, a spoofed email from myself. That's not obvious at all...
