my roommate cant register his ethernet card on the UMR network. Mine is working fine and he added his MAC address on the registration site. ipconfig shows it has a UMR UP (131.151 ect) however the net doesnt work.
He probably made a typo when registering the MAC address. IT added special pools of addresses specifically for unregistered systems on all subnets. If the network card is not registered, all you can get to is the registration/helpdesk pages. (well, I think also anything that is on campus.umr.edu). If you follow one of the links on the first "Pink" page that comes up, it will provide the hardware address. Cut-n-paste into the registration page. Prevents typos.
Once registered, the system will automatically negotiate a new address in about 1 to 2 minutes, and away you go...

More like, find some one that is in CompSci. My RA last year knew little on how to register my compy, but my neighbors knew.
