i'm looking for some barley, wheat, and other grains, as well as some mushrooms, seaweed, and other foods that aren't available in the supermarkets like wal-mart and krogers. does anybody know of a health food store that might have whole grains or an asian food store that might have seaweed and such?

Foods for Health, 707 South Bishop #E, Rolla, MO 65401
It's on the opposite of Bishop from Walmart in the shopping center near the top of the hill.
I think it's right next to Al West Chrysler (Between the Dodge and Nissan lots actually).
Of course, you could've just checked the yellow pages (or yahoo's yellow pages).
also international food and buffet downtown will have the asian food that you are looking for. I don't know the exact address, but its on the main street in downtown rolla, not too hard to find.

It's at the corner of Pine & like 12th or 13th street I think.

I don't think that international buffet has the shop in front of it anymore, though. Isn't it just 100% restaurant now?
Yeah - it looks like they're out of the grocery business.
Actualy, they were closed the last 3 times I tried to go there -
can anyone confirm whether they're open at all?

i am quite fond of steak, and i have no need of 4 testicles.
anyway, i never said i was into "health food." all that tofu and fake meat and crap. it's just that a health food store is about the only place you can find grains like barley (makes great soup with beef) and wheat (also makes great soup). also, locally grown spices are usually about 1/4 the price of spices at wal-mart. i mean, who can afford to make lamb with a mint sauce when it costs $15 for enough mint leaves at wal-mart, but you can get that much at a health food store for $0.50?
oh yes, grow a pair and register.

The fresh herbs at the health food store here in Rolla are pretty outrageous. I think that it cost something like $4 to get a small bag fo fresh basil and a small bag of oregano.
You should also be able to buy barley and wheat in about any grocery store. It won't be the highest quality but it'll do. Lord knows I love me some Couscous...and they're usually sold out of it at Wallie's.

compared to the spices at wal-mart or any other grocery store, most of the spices there are very, very cheap. i didn't look at oregano because it's so cheap at wal-mart, but things like mint are $5 for a small little bottle at wal-mart, but less than $2 for a large bag at the local health food store. not to mention that they carry spices they don't have at other stores, like sassafras or however you spell the stuff.
and no other stores i've been in even carry whole grains like barley and wheat (not flour, just the unground grains). wal-mart used to carry rolled barley (looked like oats) but they dropped it over the summer.
