I still firmly agree with those that say Rolla is what you make of it. If you want to have fun you will no matter how you end up doing it. If you don't want to or think there is no way to, you won't. Simple.

It is and it isn't. During the regular semesters, I'd agree, but over the summer Rolla really is a hole. Without the people or parties, there really is nothing in Rolla to pass the time. Unlike larger cities, Rolla is entirely dependant on the people to make living here worthwhile, and without them this place shuts down.

Yup, the only parties during the summer is Stingers and Uptown.

Now, you gotta think. Is he talking about the campus, or the city?

The Bads

The City:
Really freakin' crowded streets
Shit closes really early
Locals (most are ok, but not enough)
Only one horse to fight about

The Campus:
Guy to girl ratio is way too skewed
Shrenk really fucking sucks
Is windy more often than not
Chartwells

The Goods

The City:
Hard to get lost (save the one-way streets)
Wal-Mart's always open
Is close enough to St. Louis and Springfield for concert purposes

The Campus:
Is small (if you like that, which I do)
and, the most important, SEEK 42!

I know there is more, but can't think of any of the others ones

No...I was here all summer, and managed to have a great time. Here's a few suggestions:
Makes some friends
Watch movies with said friends
Do stupid fun projects (Potato Cannons, DDR Pads, WiFi Antenna, etc.)
Frisbee
Drive to STL
SUB Events
and that's a partial list.

If you don't have anything to do, and your bored, its your own damn fault so don't freakin' complain.

p.s. Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to drink to have a good time, I have yet to drink during my time at this school, and I have had a great time.

... and how many summers have you been here? This past one was my fourth. Trust me, after four summers here you start running out of things to do. This is especially when most of the people you came in here with have graduated or are on internships, and the only people left are sophmores (at best) who ramble on and on about their high school days and other shit no one else cares about except for them.

I think the argument was this place shuts down. How is driving to STL part of having fun IN ROLLA?

Rolla is 8 times the size of my hometown (population wise). Hell, even UMR's student population is twice that of what my hometown is! Believe me, its not that bad. You just have to find stuff to do instead of waiting for it to come to you. Sure, Mizzou would proably be alot more fun but their engineering programs suck compared to ours.
