Learn to entertain yourself, or to go out and find activities. Little to no entertainment will ever come to you in Rolla. But to be fair, Labor Day weekend is generally slower than most, since a lot of people leave this place for the three day weekend. Regular weekends probably won't be that much different, depending on the people you normally hang out with.

Just goes to show what being here for four years straight can do to your sense of time. I really don't have a chance of knowing what month it is, let alone what day. Honestly, if it wasn't for writting the occational rent check I probably wouldn't even know what year it is. All I do know is I now have all of Monday to spend getting a large part of my work/research fixed up. At this point I really don't care why I'm getting the day off, just so long as nothing is due.

I'm just glad I got the holiday part right...

I think Rolla just hit him like a ton of bricks.

One thing they forget to mention to you on your campus tour is that everyone goes home on the weekends because "there isn't anything to do in Rolla." However, if people stayed, there would be hella stuff to do. Like this weekend, we had quite a bit of people stay here at the house and we went on a float trip. If more people stayed in town, I am sure more stuff would go on. Normal weekends do have many more parties, but that is because everyone knows that there will be no one here on a 3-day weekend. Just wait until StuCo Free Day. Same thing as this weekend.

I have been here a year and cannot go home on the weekends, so I can lend a few pointers. Try to find a friend here at Rolla that is cool and is willing to bring you home with them. Find someone in the same position as you and you guys can think up plenty of stuff. Encourage other people where you live to stay on the weekends and have fun. If worse comes to worse, then learn to sleep 12 hours or more on the weekends and take advantage of Seek. That is my advice.

I remember last year when i was a freshman, after opening week EVERYONE went home. It was quite shocking really....the cafeteria and parking lot were both devoid of people/cars after 5:00 pm.

I went home this weekend b/c i needed to work and make a little cash. I'm planning on staying here for most of September though. There is some stuff to do on the weekends, you just have to find it. Or sleep and d/l tons of crap as Snocat suggested.

yea, i had fun, watched alot of movies, but i was just thinking, if it happens more often i might possibly watch every movie known to man, or kill myself.

or just wait till probation is over and get forshnuked. then theres always a good time.

Believe me... you DO run out of movies to watch... FAST. Between the 6 of us at my house I do believe that we have watched every movie at Blockbuster. Plus, we have also exhausted everything in the theaters.

That is a lot of porn to watch over a few weekends. For those that haven't noticed this before take a close look at the Blockbuster new release wall. Loads of porn all over the place just scattered in with the other new releases. Don't know for sure if the one in Rolla does this but all the ones in STL that I've been to do. Kind of amusing in a sick sadistic kind of way (ie the typical Rolla sense of humor).

Watching every movie known to man reminds me of Tambora. I wonder if the Ghost is lurking in this thread...

What are you talking about- he only watches the halfway decent movies and above.

EDIT: Ok- make that he refuses to watch horrible movies most of the time

...well, in order to correctly deduce what the "halfway decent movies and above" are, one would have to go on the expertise of another entity who would have to have watched some less than halfway decent movies in order to find the good ones. I figure, in a seven degrees of the Ghost of Tambora sort of way, he has seen every movie known to man. :)
