i need a job and I'll work just about anywhere besides fast food or walmart/k-mart (work at Target when I'm home in St. Louis. Like my job there and want to keep it) and I dont want oncampus either since, they pay minimum wage, don't they?

tomorrow Im probably going to pick up applications from sam goody, blockbuster, family video, radioshack, staples and autozone (even though I despise that place and laugh at the morons who work there) but does anyone have any ideas? I have a car so distance isn't a problem, I'll even drive to a different yet closeby (10-15 miles away) town if there's a job there.

btw, I like cars and wouldn't mind a job at a local dealer cleaning up and washing the cars before people buy them. Anyone ever had experience doing that? only problem is I'd probably have to learn to drive stick

thanks

I think places on campus pay $5.50 an hour. Not sure if that's minimum wage or not anymore.

ok thanks.

Anything in the entire wal-mart company is out of the question. As I said, I have a good job at Target back home that I want to keep during the summer and winter break, and they'll fire me the second they find out Im working for walmart. But Ill keep that in mind about the car dealership.

Work on campus. Your hours will be more flexible. Check out the student life page for a list of jobs on and off of campus. http://campus.umr.edu/studentlife/haven ... oyment.htm

i was a porter at ELCO Chevrolet in ballwin. it was an alright job. pros are: high pay thanks to the union, working with/around cars, and every once in a while you would get to drive corvettes around, like, a lot. cons are: the union (dues, and when they go on strike you get fucked as a non-full time employee), the hours (usually 8 hour shifts where i worked) the manual labor (8 hours outside in the sun with a power washer and a shammy) and the co-workers, who are usually the "decided not to go to college to get a jump-start on my career" types. you know, think they are better than you because they have a 40 hour a week job washing cars

but i need a job too, just haven't gotten around to picking up applications (too busy trying to get a co-op in the spring which would be a little more favorable)

also

if you know people, it is easy to get a job in an organization. i landed a job as a manager for the newspaper and it was the most lucrative thing i'd ever had. i think i heard someone saying that it was the highest paid on campus position. if you know someone in an organization with paid officers talk to them if they are having elections coming up. the nice thing about that is they limit you to 16 hours a week so it doesn't take up all your time for ... studying...

Most campus jobs pay anywhere between $5.15 and $6.00...some skilled positions go $7 or $8, some of the more lucrative research positions pay around $10 or $12/hr.

$5.15 is minimum wage. Don't expect more than $6.50 for an entry-level on-campus job. Howvever, any retail store isn't going to pay more than that. It's pretty good pay for part-time.

Sitting in a computer lab doing homework for 10 hours a week and earning $5.15 an hour doing it is not a bad deal. Talk to the secretary in the BE department, or see if there's an opening at the Quad or TJ CLC (assuming you live on campus).

If you're talking full-time with benefits and don't mind menial labor (what? it's kinda relaxing after 9 months of school), check out Briggs & Stratton. They're pretty much always hiring, and you're looking at 5 8's a week at something like $7.33.

The real question is how hard do you want to work?
Many people find it is reasonable to work at the desk someplace on campus if they don’t have much work to do.
If you just want the highest paying/shortest hours with flexibility Rolla work as a server.
Rock Mechanics may be hiring people, but you have to make it clear to them that you want to work, get your hands dirty, and generally not fuck off.
If you are looking for 24-40 hours of employment @ $7 an hour, the night shift at a hotels may give you all the employment, plus a good amount of study time.

I make $8.05 an hour at Target for easy as fuck work. I've been considering working at the one in Jeff City on weekends assuming they'll let me transfer, but Im still unsure if it's worth the hour drive.

What and where is Briggs & Stratton?

Yes, but you also work in St. Louis, where the standard of living is greater, and retail establishments can afford to pay more. Expect to take at least a $1 pay cut if you transfer to JC. I'm serious.

The Briggs & Stratton plant here in Rolla is a small engine assembly plant. If you like getting your fingers dirty, it's a good place to go. It's located in the industrial park off Hiway V; take 1-44 (I think) west 1 mile from the exit next to TJ. (Turn right at the lights if you're coming from TJ.) Exit on Highway V and turn left to get to the industrial park. There, you'll also find Brewer Science, a Pepsi bottling plant, a Hiland Dairy distribution center, a UPS distribution center, and another factory I think.
