Where does one start? Which is the worst part of this nightmare? Probably the bitterest pill to swallow is Shrub's popular vote margin of close to 4 million : 6 or 7 times the size of Gore's popular vote victory. Thereby Shrub dons the mantle of overwhelming "democratic" legitimacy, and under the 26th amendment, no need to curtail his excesses in order to win a third term. This time he won by the rules, and not just the electoral-college rules! (Let's not forget that we would gladly have accepted a Kerry electoral college victory even if he had lost the popular vote by millions.) We must face the appalling fact that in a straight contest between the flagrantly mendacious radical-right medicore corporate-shill flag-waving "born again" Shrub and the mildly liberal competent Kerry, the American people in a very high-turnout, fair election (with Democrats awash in campaign money and volunteers), overwhelmingly picked the shit over the shinola. As Mencken said, they know what they want - and they deserve to get it, good and hard. Next comes the rock-solid control of Senate and House by Republicans, and Right-wing ones at that. Even a cross-over or two in the Senate would not threaten their majority. In fact, it seems possible there will be as many as 56 GOP senators, close to enough (with some predictable Dem. defections on individual votes) to cut off filibusters, the last bastion of restraint on this repugnant gang. Of course their ability to pack the judiciary with vicious "Christian" Neanderthals will be unbridled. Clarence Thomas for Chief Justice anyone? If you don't like it, they will strictly construct your ass into jail. Could we have moved closer to a "party dictatorship?" What is the effectiveness of the "separation of powers" if a disciplined, unified, fanatical and ruthless political party operation controls and coordinates all branches? We know from the last few years, when their power was much less than it now will be, that Rove/Cheney & Co. are not troubled by any sense of proportion or sharing of control. Who will now stand in the way of their rape of the environment, class war against the poor, and the pulverization of Iraq's cities - not to mention additional wars of aggression and conquest? How can Patriot Act II now be derailed? Fasten your seat belts; it's going to be a bumpy ride. Apart from a predictable falling out among thieves, the only hope I see is that this triumphalist coterie will drown in their own hubris and be overtaken by reality; symbols cannot substitute indefinitely for substance. Their greed and ideological blinders could bring them down. The fake world they have created cannot indefinitely satisfy even the pathetic "family value" patriots: at some point the most supine dupes will gag on the horseshit being shoveled down their eager star-spangled throats. Please: someone tell me I am wrong, show me the errors of this post-mortem! I welcome any glimmering of a better day.

Our fellow citizens just voted for eternal war (who's next? Iran or Mexico? follow the oil), torture (it's OK because we're the good guys, right) and empire (aka Democracy for All, current version of the "open door" policy - "open up or we'll knock your door down"). Remember in grammar school when you asked yourself - "How'd those Germans let that happen over there?" Watch the answer unfold before your eyes. And dig up your copy of 1984. Twenty years too soon. And especially watch how the language gets stolen, just like Orwell said.

I don't think there's much people can say to "tell you you're wrong" with a fact-backed explanation. Correct me if I'm wrong, but all I see is a bunch of extreme pessimism.. I see no facts (aside from counting votes).. only your opinions of the Republican party and a bunch of crap you made up because you so politically pessimistic.
I got halfway through your first post and stopped reading. A bit of pot calling the kettle black going on here though. You rave about bush being so far right, yet your remarks are just as far to the left. Most of what you say is wholly untrue and simple exaggerations of a mildly truthful statment. Both extremes are wrong, what makes yours better than theirs?

The "Rules" have been "broken" before asshole. You think that was the first time a President was elected without the popular vote? And you know what keeps a government in check, the right to bear arms. Ofcourse had kerry been elected, that right would have been demolished. When the government starts removing firearms, that is when your rights will really start to disintegrate . And you think it is appropriate to liken torturing of pow's (not that I think this is ok) to the systematic annihilation of Jews, Gypsies, Homosexuals, and various other "unpure" groups. I think your thinking of saddam murdering Kurds, wait he murdered whoever he felt like, he even killed his family members, in my book he is worse than Hitler, and least Hitler had a group of people he liked. And what makes all you assholes think that kerry gives a rotten shit about piss-on poor folks like us? That is what I always here, well kerry is for the people, WHAT, do you know wht you are saying?

Despite what your buddies at the NRA tell you, most liberals don't consider gun control to be that big of an issue. I sure don't remember Kerry making that big of a deal about it.

Clarence Thomas for Chief Justice anyone?
Or worse, Antonin Scalia? John Ashcroft as an associate justice?

I found that pill not only easy to swallow, but one with amazing analgesic effects.

I would gladly slit the throat of all the Vote Kerry people on campus that wouldn't leave me alone. Quit making generalities.

I'm not sure how to tell you this, but Kerry is just as radical to one side of the political spectrum as George W Bush is to the other, and probably much more so, but that's not important right now. What is important is that 80% of America questioned the morality of John Kerry. As for being competent, I'm not sure someone who routinely dismisses the responsibilites that come with their elected position is competent. Kerry flagrantly skipped a huge percentage of Senate Votes and Committee meetings. I'm sure that you think that Kerry was the better candidate, self delusion is such a powerful tool, but you need to wake up and reevaluate your opinions if such a huge amount of Americans disagree with you. Do really think that 50 million plus people have been fooled into electing an incompetent candidate, or are you just an emotional college student, caught up in the wave of support for someone you know so little about.
I'm not saying GWB is the greatest president, or anywhere near that. What I am saying is that he has my trust, and my backing, as a penetant faithful President. Kerry never came close to gaining my trust.

Big deal, your guy didn't get elected, so now the road to the destruction of the United States goes along a different path than it would if Kerry way elected. And chances are he won't elaborate as it seems he does not feel like supporting what he says. When he does, then you attack him and discredit what he says. Facts with facts. All of this 'OMFG! It's the end of the fucking world! WTF Mate!' is bullshit.
