isn't there a way to map my campus s: to my windows desktop, so i can easily access these files from my computer at home?

i ask, because i used to use ws_ftp to just ftp files back and forth...but after a hard drive mishap and windows reinstall ws_ftp won't connect to saucer.cc.umr.edu or rocket. don't get it. anyway....

from windows explorer: tools -> map network drive. and try using gpunix1.cc.umr.edu instead of rocket and saucer.

IIRC they're trying to phase out access to AFS via Samba. Anyone know of a good Windows SFTP userspace filesystem driver?

okay, i had done that, and in "folder" i was just told to use the address "\\samba.umr.edu\[username]\". but when i do that i get a username/password window. the "username" is greyed out and says "\\samba.umr.edu\Guest" and i can't change it......

and why would they be trying to phaze it out? it seems so convenient

also it won't let you enter "gpunix1.cc.umr.edu" as a valid address into any of those boxes. it wants a "\\" address or a "ftp://" address

maybe i'll try that address with ws_ftp

Okay, I ran OpenAFS & Wake, and now I'm connected to AFS. How do I get to my S drive?

Uh huh. I did install Wake 1.6 rather than 1.5 though. Think that would have anything to do with it?

Nevermind, it works now. Apparently when I mapped all the drives, I wasn't logged in. So after I logged in, I had no drives mapped.

Thanks.

It appeared i did everything correctly but whenever i could access my s drive i couldnt do anything. i couldnt delete, upload or download. also, it felt like there was a significant reduction in my computer's performance. whenever when i went to open the start menu and anyother submenu, it took forever to open them. after i deleted all that stuff that i had to install, my computer was fine. any suggestions?

edit: i used the openAFS/wake way.
