I know some of you are interested in making music or at least listening to something different than mainstream.

I shared a few projects from my home studio on SEEK.

That should get you there.

I'd like to see some comments on my crap.

thanks

Not bad - I wish I had a home studio:( How much gear do you actually have?

Thanks.
There is a big variety of stuff on there, so what tracks do you like the most?

My studio: My main microphone is an SM57, have an Alesis mixer, midi controller, and most everything else is good software. I can semi-multi-track with the computer, but not true multi-track.

It's that supposed to be "Copyrighted"?

But anyway, I listened to some of the music. While you have a decent singing voice, the instrumental stuff is the best. Unfortunately, on tracks like "Restitution," an otherwise good piece is marred by some eightiesish electronic percussion, and the drum set sound on Fat in the Hat is way too hackneyed to be good.

I loved Simple Expressions, and I enjoyed Chillkillz. You seem to do both ends of the spectrum well, but not much in the middle. What I mean is, the weird, overly-processed stuff is fun to listen to, and you have a knack at the one-man acoustic guitar stuff.

Keep it up. Put together a CD and send KMNR a copy. I'd play Simple Expressions on my show, definitely.

Thanks for the comments and keep 'em coming.

I actually play heavy metal stuff too, which might seem impossible from seeing the stuff I have shared. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to mix it right and get my guitar tone to record the way I want it.

I actually want to consider being a deejay next semester and bring in a show that has local and experimental music. It would be totally random and cool.

here's my thoughts:
chillkillz - very eerie and brooding. I like it. I really like the distorted snare. My suggestion would be to get rid of the distorted kick in favor of a cleaner kick. This would accent the snare nicely. The song gets really good at about 2:20 when you fade back in the drums and bring in the piano.

Fat in the Hat - pretty good interlude. The repeated notes on the piano is kind of cliche, but it works nicely in short songs. I don't know if it was intentional, but the oscillating effect you had throughout the whole song kind of drops out at 1:04 for a little bit and then back in. I don't know if you did this for a reason, or if it was accidental. Either way it seems out of place, which could be good or bad depending on your motives. I would like to hear what it sounds like without the drums.

My hero - I don't like your acoustic stuff nearly as much. I'm sure this would go over well at a coffee house or something though. You're singing voice is a little...forced(?). I imagine if this were in person, it'd sound better, and I'm sure you'd get all kinds of chicks, since they seem to go for this type of thing.

New Champion - the drum beat and whatever metallic percussion it is that your hitting seem to lag a few beats. And the scratch you have at the end of each measure of the beat could go. You had the right idea with putting something there, but I don't think it's the right effect. I dunno, maybe the aformentioned metallic percussion instrument would go there? I like the effect you introduce at 1:08 though. And I am still undecided about the beat you bring in there. It seems to kinda contrast everything you had been building up before. Its a good beat, but maybe in a different song.

Restitution - I agree with Tambora on this one. The drum kit you used is kinda dated. Try just replacing the snare (clap?) with a more modern one and leaving the same kick. It might add some nice contrast, but I dunno. The high hat at 2:20 is a nice touch. I don't know about the way you bring it in though. Kind of cold turkey. I'm not sure on how to say this (Tambora will probably be able to correct me) but maybe run it through an appregio. I'm still undecided about the piano in this song. Something needs to play its part, but I'm not sure if its a Piano. I could see this in an 80s movie, where the main protagonist is dealing with some sort of life struggle.

Simple Expressions - I like it. I would hate to ruin the simplicity of it, but I think it needs something else. Possibly some vocals, but not yours. I'm imagining some moaning coming from a smokers voice would work. Or as overdone as it is, some spoken word would work. If you could find a speech about simplicity, run it through some sort of distortion/crackling effect, place snippets of it in wherever you feel fit, i think that would sound pretty interesting.

TestBTE - I'm sorry, but the guitar in this is not very good. However, your singing sounds alot better. My least favorite by far.

Overall: Really nice work. Better than anything I could do. My favorite is chillkillz. I'd be interested in hearing more. What kind of setup did you use to record all of this? EDIT: As in software

Uh, yea, notice how most of the songs are subtitled 'test' or 'version1'. Most of this stuff is just whatever comes to me at the time and I dont have time to perfect it. On the other hand, I spent 6 hours on that Jay Z mix and no one said anything about it.

The reason New Champion changes so much...its a film score where the first half is the start of a match signified by bells and its the road to defeat until the tables are turned and the character comes back.

If you want to know what software...too bad.
