Anyone try playing WoW with our shitty ass connection? Non-stop ping of 800...

I was at home and didn't ping over 150 at any give time. Now, it's just unplayable.

Whose fuckin balls to we gotta wring to get this looked into? RHA? Student Council? For fuck's sake someone tell me and let's doing something about this shit.

yeah, ok, be an asshole about it. There's nothing wrong with wanting to play a game as long as you are taking care of everything else. Nobody said that when you're in college you can't do anything but study, so just shut the fuck up. The dorms are supposed to have high speed internet connection and if not there is nothing wrong with figuring out how to take action to change that. At least he is trying to take initiative to make it better rather then just sit there and bitch about it in the forums.

Jump off a bridge. If you can't, find a bullet and I'll loan you a gun if ridiculing others is that important to you.

This I do agree with. Semester drops are inevitable.

Doubt it will drop the pings any lower, I can't even get a ping under 150 on Source even on the weekends anymore, it’s just sad. Need to block certain types of file sharing, bittorrent ect...

Anyone got some hardcore info on where our broadband upgrade would be gotten from if we bitched enough about it?

The problem with all the file streaming/downloading progs is that they use dynamic ports.

whats happening after break?

but you can't seriously accuse people who use the internet for P2P downloading because it's getting in the way of your online gaming. just like people who use P2P can't blame you for the slow internet because you play online games. everyone is using a ton of bandwitdth unnecessary downloading and gaming

The main problem, in TJ at least, it is simply the fact that all the dorms are connected to hubs and not switches.

Trace the route. My ping times don't get bad until I leave more.net. If I remember correctly, Battle.net hosts the WoW server.

This dosen't say anything about the bandwidth usage, which is still very high, but it does say that it's not all the fault of silly kiddies gaming and downloading.

For those that don't know (I hope very few of you), UMR's main Internet connection, as well as the main Internet connections for the rest of the UM System, go through more.net, which is a (perhaps THE) state-run ISP. They have switching stations in Columbia, and the main Internet uplink for the entire UM system is in Kansas City.

In the above traceroute, loops 4 and 5 represent the trip from UMR to the Columbia servers. Loop 6 represents the trip from Columbia to the main uplink in Kansas City. That trip occurs over 2 OC-12 lines, with a combined bandwidth of 1.24 Gb/s.

What does all that mean? There are two bottlenecks. The first one occurs between ResNet and the UMR uplink. The other one occurs at the other end of the line.

Odd, was on i2hub and was getting a 2MB/s connection with a guy in Massachusetts. It minimized back down to the usual 15 - 30 KB/s after 5 minutes. That's the fastest speed I've seen that wasn't someone in UMR pulling a file.
