So I brought my computer tower back home during break and I had 2 dvd drive in it that both work. One just played them and the other could burn them too. Well, my little brother somehow broke the burner so I had to make him buy me another. Not when I tried to install the new one in the old ones place, my computer didn't recongize that I had any drives in it. But then I unplugged the drive that could just read DVDs, and the new burner works.
I can handle just having the burner working, but does anyone know what maybe is wrong with the original drive now?

I'll check into that, do change those settings don't you have to mess with the little plastic thing on tha back or what?
Those things are called Jumpers. On all cdroms I've found down here in the shop the pinouts are the same as you look at the ass-end of it:
[Cable Select] [Slave] [Master]
If you set both to Cable Select, the motherboard will determine which is slave and which is master dependent on the location of the device on the IDE cable. I don't like Cable Select, so I'd make sure one is slave, one is master. If you are unsure about which pins to connect, the pins should be labled on top of the device or stamped into the metal of the rear just above the jumper area.
