you need a IDE controller card.

Promise makes some good ones. Maxtor ones are made by Promise.

SIIG cards are okay...

Highpoint is an older company in the controller card business and have done well. This card should do you okay. Also, this is newegg...tigerdirect isn't doing so hot. http://www.resellerratings.com/seller1983.html

::Edit::

I ran 6 ide devices on my mobo before it crapped out. Gigabyte GA-7VRXP.

Still looking for a cheap replacement. Anyone got some offers?

I've had some mobos with 4 IDE ports giving you a total of 8 devices. Look around, you shouldn't have much trouble finding a board with 4 of them

whats a Raid array? i just plan on having around a tetrabyte(?) of storage, im gonna setup a couple game servers to run off it such as HL2 or TF2 when it comes out, right now my mobo that i plan on using is a Gigabyte tech model Ga-8ID533, unless someone else has a better suggestion, its got enough pci ports to do most anything i should need, max the ram out on it, its gonna be my summer project when ive got the spare money

RAID is pretty spiffy. Right now I'm running 4x120GB drives in a RAID 5 configuration using Linux software RAID and am pretty happy with it. Throughput is around 25-30MB/s, with all drives on the motherboard controller.
