Can we still talk about mod chips around here?
We just got a Xbox for our house and want to put a mod chip in it.
Got any ideas?

If you are interested in doing it yourself, all the information you would need can be found at:

Do you also do mod chips for PS2? If not, do you know a good place to get one and which chip would be good? Thank you in advance.

its just like modifying a car, its your xbox, how can they say that you cant change stuff on it? they cant, you bought it, like you said its the stuff that you are CAPABLE of doing after it's modded that is bad, kind of like speeding in a car eh?

Well....aren't radar detectors illegal to have in cars?....but you can still purchase those in stores...kind of ironic. I know that with modchips...the hardware isn't illegal, but most of the software is illegal.

Hardware isn't illigal, Most software isn't illigal

MOST of the bios are since they're based on copyrighted material.

Most of the software for the Xbox was homemade, therefore it's not that illigal since it's original.

Microsoft took a modding company in France to court and lost because it was found legal to mod a Xbox and backup games as long as the owner could prove they owned all of the games with a fair amount of time.

From what I understand renting a game and backing it up isn't illigal at all, playing it after you return the game is. That's why no one does it. I own every game that I have backed up. I've got quite a collection now.

Plus the last thing Microsoft wants to do is have something like "Modding" show up on CNN and newspapers across the country, if something like that happened the entire gaming industry as we know it would change overnight.

Worseley, are you serious? Take a look on xbox-scene, I could safely assume that 95% of the software listed on their site is built with the XDK. That's why you can only download a small amount of software from xbox-scene.

Sure it was 'homemade' but the programmers were using stolen compiling software to write their homebrew apps. So they didn't "steal" the software that is being run on modded xbox's but they had to steal and use software to create their programs.

If you were to limit yourself to only using legal software for the xbox...you'd be capable of running linux, some lame homebrew games, and possibly a media center.

technically you can buy the software for $10,000 from microsoft if your a software developer.

Most of the programs that are written were done so by actual people who own XDK systems. I know 4 guys myself that personally own one. I know most of them through TeamXecuter, but they still have a big part in writing many of the programs that you see on the internet.

What do you mean 'technically'....if you knew it was perfectly legal, then you wouldn't use the word technically, and you could easily download any of the necessary software from xbox-scene or any other random website.

But strangely the people who have written this software don't host it on their websites.
