Can anyone explain to me why we have such a piece of shit internet connection in Rolla. I'm sorry, but I pay a lot of money to come here and there isn't even that much to do in Rolla in the first place. Sometimes I just want to play some Counter-Strike or any other online game for some fun. I can't believe that I can't get on a server without having ooodles of packet loss and just an all around shitty connection. I don't know what I am going to have to do to change this, but I'm convinced that it is bullshit. I'd even pay a little extra to live in the dorm with a good internet connection and I think others would too. Wow just give me my KCRR connection and I will be happy I'm not asking for anything that amazing. Come on Rolla do this one thing for me!
your online gaming is slow because you arent the only one playing online games. the network can only handle so much.

What if 75% of UMR students sign it? or at least the ones on University housing. What would that look like to the incoming students to know their internet is less then dial-up.
Hint... tell them if they don't improve it your going to take it to the media. Or have everyone tell the incoming students about it.
You guys better know what you're getting yourselves into before you do it....if you do this, this could lead to UMR doing what other universities do, such as block all ports...no running servers, and no doing anything really, just web browsing and general internet gaming. Or they could cap us with download limits per week via mac address. Just because you go to them with a petition doesn't mean that they are going to go out and aquire more bandwidth, they could restrict our already very open network.
Petitions do work. Just ask the people that have been here for 4 or more years. My freshman year the registrar wanted to go to a plus minus scale for gpa's, but after damn near every student who would be effected signed a petition, they got rid of the idea.

Just a thought...I don't really care
What's the point in doing these things when you can your packets often get beat by a snail.
There isn't really....I was just pointing out, just because a bunch of students sign a petition doesn't mean they are going to get more bandwidth...im just saying be prepared to give up a few things in sacraface..
Someone in my house said he talked to someone at CIS who said that the reduced internet speeds in our house was because of a internet bandwidth quality control on campus.
which basically means they're capping the internet to give the campus computers insane computer speeds.

If you vpn into the network from inside the network your speed will go up.
I just did a test and I got 473kbps down and 4870kbps up.
