I got some pretty messed up problems that maybe someone can help me with. To start off with, I've been having problems with the movie Life Aquatic. Everytime I would open a folder with that movie in it, wheter it be a folder on my computer or on somebody else's, I would get an error and explorer would have to close. When I ignored that error and copied the movie to my computer it did the same thing on my computer. When I ignored the error about the folder and actually opened the movie I would get a Windows Media player error and that would have to close. So basically anything that had to do with the movie caused an error. Then, sometimes Dr. Win, or whatever it is called, would have an error and be forced to close. Dr. Win is the program that is supposed to report the errors to microsoft. I checked for updates, viruses and adware but little came up.

Then I get up this morning and my computer is turned off (I left it on last night) and will not turn back on. I thought it might be my old surge protector, but I reset that and it still did not turn on. I proceded to take my computer apart to see if all connections were still good since I just swapped cases and power supplys not very long ago. All connections still looked good, so I hooked my comp back up and it did turn on. It might have just been a bad connection between the power supply and power supply cord, even though it was in place.

The problems did not stop there, however. Now that my computer starts up there is a problem with my keyboard and mouse not working. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting them several times as well as turning off and restarting my computer several times, but nothing has worked. My keyboard is getting power since the number lock key seems to be the only one that is working.

Does anybody know what the hell is up with this and how I can fix it? I'm not sure if any of these problems are interelated, but I'm not sure and they all are happening withing the past 2 days or so. I really hoping it's not a virus and that I wasn't hacked. The virus scanner I used was Norton so I would think that would have found a virus if I had one unless it was new. Thanks for any help you could give me.

well first of all this is prolly obvious but i'll say it anyway, for completeness: the issue with the move is not related to the hardware issues...

anytime you browse near an audio video file in windows explorer it tries to read the file... for instance if you are browsing under 'thumbnails' mode it will grab the first frame of the video and put that up with the name of the file... even if you're not in thumbnails mode it still will try to grab the first frame... it shows this on the left-hand column if you don't use "folder view" or any of the other left-hand toolbars.... but even if you don't see it (cause you use folder view) windows still tries to decode the file. VLC is what i use for troublesome AV files in windows but it sounds like you need a new file anyway... I have a copy of TLA that I can put up if a working copy isn't up on seek... lemme know and I'll try to find it on my HDs from home

as to your hardware issues all i can say is that my PSU recently went bad (a cheap one that had come with the case) and when i got a new one my on-board sound didn't work and i had to find an old sound card and put that in.. never found a solution :(

I didn't think the component move was a problem, but thanks for reaffirming that. I just wasn't sure if there could have been a problem with it that I didn't know about.

As for the life aquatic, the weird thing is that there is a good copy on seek. My brother downloaded the movie before me and his works fine on his computer. I even tried getting the movie from him, but I had the exact same problems.

I took my computer down to the walk in computer lab today and found out that it's probably the ps/2 ports on the motherboard going bad/breaking. It could also be that the motherboard doesn't fit in my case quite correctly and the ports are slightly curved so that there may just be connection problems with that. I'm going to remove my motherboard tonight and see if that is the problem, otherwise it appears that it is my motherboard and it needs to be replaced.
