Does anyone else get mad when they think about the Pop music industry?
There are these awful singers that dont write their own songs, lip sync, have everything handed to them on a silver platter (including thier career), and just all around really suck. And there are people out there who eat this shit write out of these pop singers asses. Its unbeleivable to see the band that works 5 years to play in dank bars and dull parties and to see a girl who has no talent at all land a recording contract with 8 figures overnight. As a musician I am absolutely sickened by the state of this pop music shit.
It could all be solved if the real musicians would just write catchy tunes to begin with that appeals to the masses, become radio stars, make millions for "selling-out," then, after they've established themselves, make the music they really want to make.
Too bad most really good musicians would rather just not write than write that crap.

I agree completley. People like Ashlee Simpson who sing worse than my dog are getting everything handed to them, and good bands can't even get radio play
100% agreed. Most the well known "artists" of today haven't had to to any work to get where they are. Ask yourself if Brittany Spears would have gone platinum if no one new what she looked like...ditto for every other blonde pop star out there. Every generation has had their pop groups, it just seems like it gets worse and worse as time goes on. I have an insane amount of respect for a band that plays in the bar or coffee house scene for five years making a hundred dollars a gig and continue to play just for the love of music. Then there's people like Ashlee Simpson who get fame handed to them on a silver plater simply because her older sister is well known, and later complain about people downloading music off the net because they didn't get as big of paycheck this month so they can't pay for their five BMW's. Buy me a car and I'll gladly buy your stupid album. It doesn't even take much now, just find someone to write a few songs for you, pretend to sing, look hot, and bam you've sold a million records. Just watch the South Park episode where Cartman makes the $10 bet he can make a platinum album.

Let's not only bitch about the girls. What about all the guys as well? Luckily enough, boy-bands are all but extinct now. But, because of those, we have asses who strike out on their own to bug us still. So, they can sing and dance? Given enough training, -anyone- could do that.
The only thing about pop I like, is JoJo, and that's just because she can be pretty damned hot. You hafta mute the TV, though, but still.
While on this topic of bitching, let's complain about the state of music videos. Why the hell does rap take over the airwaves on MTV, and then we get stuck with mostly easy-listening shit on VH1? Sure, -sometimes-, they will play decent videos, but not nearly enough. Now, from quantity, to quality. Where did they get the idea that we want to sit and watch some ugly-ass dude grinding on some stripper, then shots of him with more diamonds than brain cells, and THEN get to see stupid-ass cars that they don't own? What is the point? I miss videos that tell a story. Think Velvet Revolver - Fall to Pieces. Country music videos are now starting to become just like rap videos. Just shots of just the singer for 3-5 minutes. Sure, some rock videos are at fault for doing this now, too, but at least their videos are enjoyable on an artistic level.

go indie.
one of the best albums i've heard recently is ludachris''s new one. but you know what is better? "push the button" the new release from the chemical brothers.
it's not pop, but it's fucking HOT and i can't stop listening to it
If its pop music, as in popular, most of the times I can't stand it. I can respect the bands that paid there dues in order to get popular (modest mouse, coheed & cambria, thrice), but bands that just appear out of nowhere with songwriters in tow, can go the hell home.
but if you're referring to catchy pop...I would like to point out the existence of catchy good music. Its possible to write good songs with pop sensibilities and not sell your soul. Everyone should check out AC Newman or the New Pornographers in order to understand what I'm talking about. This is shit that could be all over the radio if they had good management AND wanted it to be on the radio.
As to why people buy this shit...marketing. Marketing people can convince most shallow people to buy anything. Buy yourself a few spots on TRL, and pay a little money, and you've got yourself a position on top 40 radio where all the shallow people hang out to get their daily fix of fitting in.
PS: I like Brittany Spears, at least her production team.

I don't care for Indie music in general. Don't get me wrong, I hate these damn manufactured pop stars as much as anyone, but I also hate manufactured rock stars that prevail these days. I refuse to call them "artists." I won't name any names at the risk of having someone who agrees with my point just stop reading because I said something bad about a band they liked. But anyway, Indie is obviously popular these days, probably because so many people have gotted feed up with the stars who "sell-out." But it has really gotten out of hand... The labels always follow the trends and thus, try to produce big names that sound like indie bands, so that they may make their trucker hats and t-shirts with the emblems plastered all over them. So it sounds like I'm leaning towards indie? No, some of them deserve the money poured into them like the stars of old so they may be heard. Some of them deserve someone in the business to tell them how shitty they are and perhaps teach them how to play an instrument.. All this combined just goes to horribly lower our standards as consumers of music, which is very sad for a true musician.
