How very strange and tragic that of the Kennedy boys, the very least of them has lived the longest. I just finished watching ol' Teddy try to sell the case of Vietnamization with respect to Iraq. Whatever the feelings of people on the war there, I truly believe that we must finish the job. True, the cost has been high when compared to other recent wars, but would totally removing the US troops really be the best course of action? Had either of his brothers come upon this situation, I do not feel that they would warrant the same plan of what is essentially a retreat. Both of his more enlightened brothers felt that human life was to be valued and the fight to bring the basic rights to those without them was a cause worth the sacrifice. No one fully knows the extent of why the reasons for going to war intially did not bear out once we were actually in the country. Perhaps Saddam did actually distroy his WMD's and just did not want to come clean to the fact that his powerful weapons stockpile was no more. Or perhaps those which weren't distroyed were sold, shipped or simply given to any one of the western hating countries/terrorism sects which reside in the area.
Wherever the truth will eventually be found to lie, this much is known to be true now, we are in Iraq, we have already asked our soldiers and their families to sacrifice much for Iraq, the brave men and women of Iraq who risk their lives to make it the country a better place have sacrificed for Iraq, but the sacrificing is not yet finished. It is very true that we could leave Iraq and have every man and woman in uniform out of the country within a matter of weeks with few additional casualties. However by doing so we forsake the patriots who desire a free Iraq to the fate of those south Vietnamese who were expecting our help to fight back the ruthless Northerners. But as we all know there is no more South Vietnam, it was distroyed shortly after we left and for years it had left Americans who lost loved ones to continually ask, what was all the sacrifice for? So I propose to hold onto hope as the Greater Kennedys, John and Robert did and try to honor the fallen soldiers memory by attempting to finish what they and their brothers who continue to fight started. JFK and RFK lived the meaning of the "noble sacrifice". Their lesser brother can hardly make that claim.
